In the movie Shrek, the character Donkey is a talkative and humorous sidekick to the main character, Shrek. However, it is the dragon who falls in love with Donkey, despite their obvious differences in size and species. The dragon is initially portrayed as a fierce and dangerous creature, but her affection for Donkey softens her character and leads to a comedic and unexpected romance. The dragon's design was inspired by traditional Chinese dragons, with a serpentine body and large wings. The character was voiced by actress and singer, Eddie Murphy, who brought his signature humor and energy to the role.

Donkey is working for the witches, pulling the cage in which Shrek is taken to see Rumpel. Shrek sparks up a conversation with Donkey, who seems to not know who he is! Donkey mentions that he doesn't want to work at Old MacDonalds; to the watcher this is a cleverly disguised reference to the McDonalds restaurants.

Rumpelstiltskin is heard to request a different wig for a couple of reasons, including for the making of a proclamation (this one looks like something that a British Lord would wear). His angry wig, which he also demands, is red and long, and makes him look like a troll, one of those small dolls that were popular in the '60s. Dragon, as a servant of Rumpelstiltskin, can be seen putting a wig on him.

Antonio Banderas is the voice for Puss in Boots. Puss is a cute kitty with battle skills. While Merlin is poofing them back to Far Far Away, Donkey and Puss switch bodies.

Of course both characters come off feeling that they are less good looking than before, and desperately want their own bodies back. Donkey feels exposed without pants and hates the stupid boots. Puss is unimpressed when Donkey's kids swarm him, thinking him to be their father. The funniest thing about the switch is when Puss In Boots tries to trick some guards with his big eyed, cute act but it just doesn't work with Donkey's face and buck teeth. The switch lasts until Merlin switches them back, at which time he does not manage to switch their tails.

Arthur Pendragon, or Artie as he prefers to be called, is engaged in a jousting match, which he subsequently loses, when they track him down. When they first walk through the school's gates, Shrek comments that his hands are sweaty and his stomach hurts, so it must be high school. The Medieval Cheerleaders are amusing, as is the girl who asks Shrek to be her girlfriend's date.
Arthur is voiced by Justin Timberlake, who was dating Cameron Diaz at the time the movie was made. Ironically, they broke up before the movie's release.
